EXCERPT
ROUNDMAN
“Hush, little baby, don’t say a word,” Dia sings softly to our baby girl. “Daddy’s gonna buy you a Harley shirt.”
I can’t stop the laugh that escapes as I lean against the doorjamb.
Little noises come from our baby, and Dia looks up at me with sharp eyes.
“Well then, Mister Chuckles, you come put her to sleep.” She stands from the rocking chair and brings me the baby all wrapped in red.
Claudia was adamant that our nursery and baby not look like someone vomited Pepto pink in her room and her wardrobe. Can’t say that I’m sad she feels that way, either.
With her hair all wild around her face, her eyes tired from lack of sleep these last few days, and baby spit-up on her shirt, my wife has never looked more disheveled nor more beautiful.
Taking Delilah from her arms, I kiss my wife on her forehead. “Go shower and take a nap, love.”
“Gladly,” she says with an exhausted smile. With a quick kiss to our daughter’s head and one to my lips, she heads off to her sanctuary—our bedroom.
Sitting in the rocker that faces my daughter’s crib all decked out in hot air balloons with teddy bears, I have to smile at how life has changed from the moment they placed Delilah in my arms.
With the face of a doll, eyes of an angel, and a head of blonde hair to match her mother’s, my baby girl is absolutely perfect.
Bright eyes look up at me as she opens and closes her mouth like a fish. “Never known love so deep, dollface.” My voice is raspy as I try not to be loud, but I want to talk to my little girl. “Loved your momma before, but watching her with you, holding you, having you … Well, Doll, I’ve never know anything purer in my life.”
My daughter smiles. Dia says it’s gas, but I don’t care. My baby girl smiles before her eyes close, and she snuggles closer to me.
“Leather, oil, and man,” I explain happily. “One day, you’re gonna grow up, and when you find a man, he should smell like a hardworking man, Doll.” The thought of my baby girl growing up has me twitching to shoot something. “Never mind that, precious. I promise you, as your dad, I’ll be the man you look up to. I’ll be the man who makes you proud. I’ll be rock solid for you and your momma. I’ll give you my all and my love.” I rock her, thinking of what it’s going to be like to watch her grow. “When the time comes to let you go, I’m going to fight like hell to keep you with me. I’ll give my life before I’ll let anyone touch you.” Kissing her head as she soundly sleeps, I hold my daughter in my arms.
As much as I have loved this series, I must admit I was
dreading reading this book, but not for the reason you think. I know it’s getting closer to the end of the
series and I wanted to put it off as long as possible. I’ve grown to love all of this MC, so I can’t
imagine what Chelsea is feeling as she is writing their ending.
Originals Ride is about the four founding members, Roundman,
Danza, Frisco, and Rocky, of Hellions MC and how each of them started the
club. I really enjoyed this book because
we all know these guys are tough as hell, big bad guys, but here you see the
softer side of them before they became such hardened men.
Roundman (Blaine) and Rocky (Tommy) were friends since they
were kids and grew up together. Blaine
is in love with Claudia, but he felt he was never good enough for her. Their lives are complete opposite, but that
doesn’t stop them from being together.
Claudia was such a sweetheart and even though we all know what happened
to her, they had a great life together.
When Doll came into the picture, it only strengthened their bond. I really loved seeing Roundman when Doll was
born, because he loved her so much right from the start. What a great dad he was! Rocky and Marie were next-door neighbors who
grew up together and they were inseparable.
Their love started out as friends who worked their way into becoming the
perfect couple.
One day, they were working at Clive’s shop when trouble
first started. Poor Clive found himself
facing danger and Blaine and Tommy come to his rescue. From then on, they became tougher and
everyone knew not to mess with them.
Their protective side for their families and everyone around them is
what made these men.
Danza (aka Rhett) and Mary Alice seemed perfect, except he
didn’t respect her enough. She did so
much for her and he just walked on her, and that made me furious. She was so good to him and he took her for
granted. As they work through their
issues, I was wondering if they would make it.
Poor Mary Alice pretty much raised Sass on her own, until Danza finally
opened his eyes and saw what needed fixing in their relationship.
Frisco (aka Roger) and his past was just heartbreaking. He came from nothing and had no home. Just when life was starting to look up, it
was taken away yet again and he was alone.
But, when he met the Hellions, he found his true family.
As their MC grew stronger and they started gaining members,
I loved seeing these men change, some times for the better and sometimes
not. But, nothing failed with their
loyalty to each of them and the mutual respect they had for one another and
their club. It doesn’t mean life was
peaceful because in no way was it easy.
We know what happened to Claudia, Roundman’s wife, and it was
devastating and yes, I cried at times during this book, too. Rocky and Marie weren’t able to see the club
strengthen and grow too much, but they were never forgotten.
By the end of this book, I was dreading the end more and
more and poor Roundman just broke my heart in so many ways. He is definitely one amazing man in so many
ways and you can really tell how much he was respected by everyone around him.
I loved these guys as husbands, fathers, and bikers and this series is a must
read. Another thing that I enjoyed is
that it’s set in NC, where I live also and I can relate to where they are
located and it made me feel right at home.
Be sure to read the series in order to get up to this one because I
recommend them all, including this 4 star book.
