Blog Tour - GINGER'S HEART by Katy Regnery

Ginger's Heart by Katy Regnery

Date of Publication: March 22, 2016

"I finished Ginger's Heart last night, and I am completely and utterly in love." --Mia Sheridan, NY Times bestselling author

Blurb

Once upon a time there were two cousins:

one golden like the sun,
one dark like midnight,
one a protector,
one a predator,
one a Woodsman
and
one a Wolf…
both owning equal,
but different,
parts of a little girl's heart.

In this modern retelling of "Little Red Riding Hood," the woodsman and the wolf are cousins, and Little Red is the girl with whom they both fall in love.

Beautiful Ginger McHuid, daughter of Kentucky's premiere horse breeder, grows up on her family farm, best friends with Cain Wolfram, the son of her father's Stallion Manager, and Cain's cousin, Josiah Woodman, son of a local banker. Throughout their happy childhood, the three are inseparable friends, but as they mature into adults, complicated feelings threaten to destroy their long history of friendship and love.

An hour later they stopped by the Glenn River, eight miles downriver from Ginger's house and two from the distillery where Cain had partied last night.
"We should water them," he said, reining in Thunder and dismounting with the ease of a lifelong horseman.
She reined in Heath, who nickered in protest, and grinned down at Cain who reached up for her. His hands lingered for an extra moment on her hips as she slid down the front of his body. Leaning her head back, she stared up at him, daring him to pull her closer, to kiss her, to admit that this whole "friends" thing was bullshit on fire. But, he clenched his jaw, cleared his throat and dropped his hands.
"Thanks," she murmured, her voice husky in her ears as he stared down at her, his eyes flinty and dark.
Taking Heath's reins with a grunt, he turned away from her, leading the horses to the river's edge and leaving her to follow behind. She leaned down to pick up a flat stone and skipped it across the slow moving water.
"Not bad," said Cain.
"You were always the best."
"Nah," he said. "Woodman was better."
"Nope," she countered, picking up another stone. "Woodman was good, but you were better. Remember that Fourth of July that you skipped eleven times? Eleven times. It was a record."
Satisfied that the horses were calm and drinking their fill, Cain leaned down and grabbed a rock of his own, skipping it over the dark water.
One-two-three-four-five-six-seven…
"Wow!" she said, clapping lightly. "You've still got the touch!"
He turned to her, grinning. "You always get excited about the littlest things. What's it like gettin' a kick out of everythin', Gin?"
"What's it like gettin' a kick out of nothin', Cain?" she asked, her voice full of sass.
"I'm gettin' a kick out of you right now, princess."
A charge zapped between them as the words left his mouth, and her breath hitched and held for just a moment, but she looked down and picked up another rock. She was enjoying today too much to go back to Awkwardland.
She skipped her rock, which sunk after three measly hops.
"Remember when you saved my Cabbage Patch doll from certain doom in this river?" she asked him.
He screwed up his face as her. "Wasn't me. Must have been Woodman."
"It was you!" she insisted. "Not Woodman!"
"Savin' a dolly? Please. That has Woodman written all over it. I couldn't have cared less if it drowned."
"But I cared," she said softly. "Which is why you saved it."
"Fine. Have it your way," he said, sitting down on a large rock near the water's edge.
She sighed, squatting down to wash her hands in the clear water before looking back at him. "Why do you do that?"
"Do what?"
"Let Woodman take credit for all the good things?"
He shrugged, looking away from her, out at the water. "I don't."
"You just did. Twice."
He sighed, giving her a long-suffering look. "If somethin' good happened, chances were, it was Woodman's doin'."
"How do you figure?"
"He's the better man, Gin," said Cain, his eyes severe, his words deliberate.
She stood up slowly, turning her body completely to face him. "Do you really believe that?"
He looked away. "It's the truth."
"Cain. Cain, look at me." Her words didn't feel like enough so she beseeched him with her eyes too. "You're just as good a man as he is."
"Ha!" scoffed Cain, standing up and moving away from her. "Not in this life, princess."

Review - Glitter Baby by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Glitter Baby

By: Susan Elizabeth Phillips

 Goodreads

Blurb:

Fleur Savagar is the most beautiful woman in the world . . . to everyone but herself. With her oversized hands and paddle-boat feet, her streaky blond hair and funny green eyes, she lives a life filled with secrets that began before she was born. That was when her bewitching mother left home to find James Dean and met Errol Flynn instead. Now Fleur has to grow up quickly, and life won't make that easy.

Jake Koranda is both New York's most brilliant playwright and Hollywood's hottest actor. Difficult, talented, and tormented, he has no patience for international glamour girls, not even ones with beautiful bodies and smart-aleck mouths. But there's more to the Glitter Baby than shine, and Fleur's tougher than Jake expects. Even with the odds stacked against her, she's fiercely determined to discover the woman she's destined to be.

An ugly duckling who can't believe she's turned into a swan . . . A tough-guy movie star with a haunted past . . . In a land of broken dreams, can two unlikely lovers trust their hearts?

WARNING: This is not your usual light-hearted, fun read by SEP.

It’s no secret that I absolutely love SEP’s books, so it comes as no surprise that this was another “LOVE IT” read for me. But…if you’re looking for a funny, light-hearted romantic comedy as SEP graces us with quite often, this book is NOT for you. If you love in depth characters and solid plot lines with dark, sordid stories then I would definitely recommend Glitter Baby.

WHAT I LIKED:

The characters, they drive the story. They are deep and scarred and perfectly imperfect.

You have Belinda Savagar, Fleur’s mother, who is in love with…well, with herself and the idea of being a starlet. A stage mom at her worst, Belinda is manipulative and conniving, all in the name of “love” for her Glitter Baby. When it comes to seeing her daughter succeed, there’s not much (or many) she won’t do. And somehow through her twisted, misguided attempts to love her daughter, I really think she does.

Then there’s the Glitter Baby herself, Fleur Savagar, an exceptional woman despite her upbringing. She’s abandoned by her father and placed on an unsteady pedestal by her crazy mother. How could anyone with this girl’s past NOT be totally screwed up…and yet, she isn’t. Feeling awkward and alone, sent to a convent as a child, Fleur grows into a majestic swan, becoming the world’s most successful model and actress all before she’s twenty. But still she feels like the ugly duckling of her youth even as she searches the world for unconditional love.

Then there’s the villain, Alexi Savager, Fleur’s evil father who will risk anything and everything to extract his revenge on both his wife and daughter. And when I say anything…I mean anything. Creeper alert. To say the man is deplorable is putting it lightly. There were moments in this book that I closed my eyes and thought, “No…no…no…don’t do it.”

And last but certainly not least is our hero, Jake Koranda, or is he? He kind of seems like an ass most of the time. Jake is an actor, writer, director extraordinaire, Hollywood’s latest heart throb both on and off the silver screen. He’s thrust into the limelight he doesn’t want despite his flaws. Kind of like someone else we know… What most don’t know is that he’s an ass for a reason. Jake lives with demons from his past that make Freddie Krueger seem like Ronald McDonald. And he’ll die before he lets down his walls, especially to a glamor girl called Glitter Baby.

Somehow SEP is able to bring together three intriguing plots and four dynamic characters (actually more) into one epic love story. It’s dark, it’s depressing, and it’s real.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:

I didn’t get to really know our hero, Jake Koranda, not enough to empathize with him. I realize there was a lot going on with other characters in the book, but Jake’s story was so important, his past so critical to who he was, I just would have loved to see more development. But again, it wasn’t something that put me off so much that I hated the story. And the sub characters were just sleezy enough to make me forget I needed more Jakey.

Can love between two rival clubs survive without someone taking the ultimate fall?

His lips press against mine again in a soul shattering kiss. It's slow and gentle, soft. This kiss is unlike any we’ve ever shared before; unlike any kiss I’ve ever had in my life. It is pure love coming off both of us, melding us together as one.
Slowly pulling away, he pushes me over onto my back. He makes his way down my body, only stopping to place a kiss on both of my pebbled nipples before pulling my legs apart. His talented mouth covers my core as his tongue slips between my folds and runs over my sensitive clit. He sucks my clit into his mouth, scraping his teething over the sensitive nub. One of his fingers slips into me, gliding in and out at a leisurely pace.
His tongue circles my clit once, then again, before he sucks it into his mouth. He adds another finger, then curves them up to reach my G-spot. The gentle suction, along with his finger rubbing my flesh, pulls an earth shattering orgasm from my body.

Bringing my hands to his dark locks, I moan out his name. “Boz.”

I’m still catching my breath as he makes his way up my body, once again stopping to place a kiss on each of my breasts.  Then his lips are on mine again, for another gentle yet deep kiss. I can taste myself on him. The flavor of the two of us combined is completely intoxicating, causing an aftershock to course through my body.

He pulls away long enough to grab a condom and roll it on, then brings his mouth back to mine. His hardness is nudging at me, asking for entrance.  Instead of sinking in, he runs the head of his cock through my juices before settling back where he belongs.

Lifting my hips just enough for the tip to ease in, I look him in the eyes. “You are amazing.”
His eyes are locked on mine as he enters me inch by inch, slowly sliding deeper. “Never felt anything better, darlin’.”

I lift my hips again, forcing him to move with me. He slowly pulls out of my depths then glides back inside. He pulls out again and again, thrusting back in a bit harder each time. I wrap my legs around his waist, resting them right above his ass, then lock my feet at the ankles. After that, I simply hang on and enjoy the pleasure of him filling me.

“Nothing could be better than this,” I say with a sigh, closing my eyes.

His thrusts gain speed, going a bit deeper each time. His hips rock back and forth, grinding against me each time he bottoms out. When he changes angles, causing his pelvic bone to brush over my clit, the constant friction has me getting closer and closer to coming again. When he finally goes all the way in again, my entire body is on fire as pleasure fills me.

I toss back my head and moan out my love for him. “Only you.”
