Review for FIGHTING DESTINY by Shelly Morgan

FIGHTING DESTINY

By:  Shelly Morgan

Blurb:

With a dark past of abuse, Toby Smith full-on raged against life.

After years of neglect from his junkie mother, Toby turned to the one thing that made his fury go away—mixed martial arts. Now, as an adult, he lives and breathes his training club and fighting, inside or outside of the cage. But when a mousy blonde walks into his gym for a self-defense class he's teaching, that all fades away.

Sara Carmichael was always a doormat—until the day she took her life back.

Struggling to cope with years of physical and emotional abuse from a boyfriend, things take a turn for the worse. Drunk and in rare form, he nearly violates her in unspeakable ways. So she leaves and escapes from New York to California, hoping it’s far enough away that he won't find her.

Sparks fly in the most uncommon places.

When Sara and Toby meet, they never expected it would be in a sweaty gym. When they are together, Toby feels things he can’t understand. But when Sara’s past clouds their present, will she be strong enough to defend her new life? Or will Toby snap and become the man she’s always feared?

It’s one thing to fight for love, but it’s another when you’re…Fighting Destiny.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

After reading Rewriting Destiny, I was so excited to get book two and what a whirlwind it was!  I loved Toby in book one and am so glad to see him get his story.  Once I started this book, I couldn’t stop until I finished. It's one of those that really keeps you interested from beginning to end and will draw you into each of the characters.

Toby is a member of the Forsaken Sinners MC and also a fighter.  You can't get any hotter than that, plus a hot alpha male, and I was falling for him from the beginning.  He's in the gym minding his own business while working out when Sara comes in for a self-defense class.  He can tell from just seeing her that she is broken and is a battered woman.  She is practically afraid of her own shadow.

“I think I’ve loved you from the moment I saw you walk into the gym.  You were everything I didn’t know I wanted, everything I wasn’t looking for, but as soon as I saw you, I knew you were mine.”

Sara is running from her past.  She's been abused by her ex, Rick, and escaped from him with practically just the clothes on her back.  He's beaten her down, not only physically but mentally as well.  Running into Dani, who owns the tattoo shop, is the beginning of a new start for her.  Dani offers her not only a job, but also the apartment upstairs.

Sara starts her job and slowly begins to feel safe but is still afraid Rick could pose a threat for her.  Oh, I despised him for the way he made poor Sara feel. I wanted to beat him myself. After meeting Toby, she's so leery of him.  She doesn't want another man to control her and I can't blame her for that at all.  Who would want to fall into that life again?  This poor girl has been through hell and back.

“I’ve already fallen for you, Toby, but when I fell, instead of just letting me crash and burn, you caught me.”

Toby knows he wants Sara but he can't help that he's quite controlling and several times this scares her away.  He's set in his ways and once he wants something, nothing will stop him.  He wants to protect her but knows he has to be careful with her because she's trying to protect her heart.

As Toby and Sara grow closer, she starts to find the peace she never thought was possible for her.  When her past comes back to threaten her, not only does it cause her pain but Dani also.  Oh, what a mess that makes.  Here comes even more drama because with Dani being pregnant, Blaze is not only furious with Sara but also at Dani for getting involved with Sara’s drama.  As we saw in book one, Dani is one fierce woman who you don't want to cross.  Even pregnant, she is one badass woman!

As they find themselves in greater danger by the monster of her ex, Sara ends up redeeming herself with Blaze. Believe me, it is not an easy task and I didn't envy Sara in the least.  I wouldn't want to be in her shoes when the wrath of Blaze strikes.

One thing I really loved about this book is that it is not a book involving only Toby and Sara but you get more of Dani and Blaze’s relationship.  You see how much stronger their bond is and how much they have grown as a couple.  Even though they fight like cats and dogs at times, they have a strong relationship that has only deepened through time. I love all of the involvement of the club and I loved seeing the club take Sara under their wing like they did Dani in book one.

This book is full of action, angst, and a hot and sexy love story too.  The love between Toby and Sara is amazing and oh so hot. I think those sheets were melting from those scorching scenes. Shelly’s writing is intense and that's one thing I love about her books.  Not one time during this book was I bored and that's the thing I am always looking for in a great book. After reading this book and seeing how secretive Louie is, I only hope I don't have to wait long for his book.  If you love a good MC book that you don't want to put down, then I recommend this 5 star book!
