Today we are sharing the incredible covers for The Darkest Sunrise Duet by Aly Martinez. Check them out below, along with the blurbs for each title. The first book in this contemporary romance duet will be released on July 13th! Be sure to follow Aly's newsletter to be notified when the books are up for pre-order.

The Darkest Sunrise (The Darkest Sunrise Duet, #1)

Coming July 13

Synopsis:

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me. Whoever coined that phrase is a bald-faced liar. Words are often the sharpest weapon of all, triggering some of the most powerful emotions a human can experience. “You’re pregnant.” “It’s a boy.” “Your son needs a heart transplant.” Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me. Lies. Syllables and letters may not be tangible, but they can still destroy your entire life faster than a bullet from a gun. Two words—that was all it took to extinguish the sun from my sky. “He’s gone.” For ten years, the darkness consumed me. In the end, it was four deep, gravelly words that gave me hope of another sunrise. “Hi. I’m Porter Reese.”

The Brightest Sunset (The Darkest Sunrise Duet, #2)

Coming July 27th

Synopsis:

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me. Bullshit. Words destroyed me. “I’m sorry. She didn’t make it.” “Daddy, he can’t breathe!” “There’s nothing more we can do for your son.” Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me. Lies. Those syllables and letters became my executioner. I told myself that, if I didn’t acknowledge the pain and the fear, they would have no power over me. But, as the years passed, the hate and the anger left behind began to control me. Two words—that was all it took to plunge my life into darkness. “He’s gone.” In the end, it was four soft, silky words that gave me hope of another sunrise. “Hi. I’m Charlotte Mills.”

  teaser-7

Tied is the second book in the Devils Wolves series and it can be read as a standalone, but you get a peek at Tyler in Torn, the first book.  Where Torn was more of a taboo, no-no kind of book (that I loved, too), Tied is more about two people who have been through hell and are trying to put their lives back together one day at a time.  They are so broken but seem to be the piece that the other needs to heal.

We saw a sneak peek of Tyler in the first book where you see his mysterious side, and I wondered why he lives in the woods.  Tyler is a complex, but yet simple character.  He’s been burned by a fire and had crashed his motorcycle into a house, which made him lose some of his voice along with so many cuts, but yet he is humble.  He lives in isolation because the town knows who he is, but he seems to enjoy that.  He likes the simple things in life and doesn’t need all the frills.  But when he saves Holly from her torturer and becomes a hero, he feels a connection to her unlike anyone else.

Poor Holly has been rescued from a hole in the ground by Tyler.  She had been kidnapped ten years ago and has been raped and tortured.  It amazes me that this girl is able to turn her life around, but not from the help of her parents.  They just toss her in therapy and leave her there.  She feels like a guest in her old home; she doesn’t even have her old room.  It’s for the ‘new’ daughter, her younger sister, as she says.

As Tyler and Holly are together more and more because when she was found, he saved her dog, they have this unique connection.  It’s so new for them both, and I love how this wasn’t an insta-love.  They work up slowly to a friendship and get to know one another.  Tyler is amazing in so many ways!!!  He knows to take it slow and not force Holly to do anything or she will retreat into her shell.

“We can’t escape this.  No matter what, this is us.  We’re tied together by this awful course of events, unknowingly walking the same path.”

When Holly has a chance to move to New York with her brother and his girlfriend, I didn’t know what to think.  All she wanted was for Tyler to ask her to stay, but he didn’t.  When he realizes he is about to lose the love of his life and soul mate, he knows he can’t let her go.  I was blown away with how he told her he wanted her.  That was different and made it such a tender moment.  Tyler is a beautiful man!

“She’s everything.  My past.  My present.  My future.  My twin flame-the one who shares the path of my soul.” - Tyler

I enjoyed getting a touch of the rest of the family and cannot wait to read more of these characters.  I love how Carian brought out so many emotions, and I teared up a couple of times because it was so heartbreaking but so tender and beautiful.  The characters are easy to love, and you can feel how they balance each other out in so many ways.  Being that Holly kept all of her fairytale books and believed in a prince, she really found him in Tyler.  He is no longer the town freak and she isn't the girl in the hole anymore. They are true soul mates in every sense of the word and, as with the first book, it’s another 5 star read!

Title: The Bars Between Us

Author: A.S. Teague

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: July 20th

About The Bars Between Us:

I don’t have a damn thing in common with the beautiful rich girl who walks in to my bar. She’s southern class, fancy cars, and designer shoes. I’ve got a drunk for a mother, a cheater for a father, and a reputation for trouble I’ve more than earned. I look the other way, pretending I don’t notice how perfect she is. She wouldn’t give me the time of day anyway. Until she shatters that first impression and shows me she’s so much more––everything I never thought I deserved. After a lifetime of being a disappointment, I want to prove to her that I’m better than my past. We have one tragic thing in common, and the thread that binds us together will tear us apart as it unravels. Are we strong enough to break through the Bars Between Us?

Exclusive Excerpt:

Parked beside my car is a truck that’s got to be twice as old as I am and looks like it should have been buried long ago. Bronn hooks a thumb in the rust bucket’s direction and tells me, “Bessie’s seen better days, but I just can’t bring myself to put her out to pasture.” I pull my door open and toss my purse inside, before turning to face him. “Bessie, huh?” He props a hip on her front fender. “Belonged to my dad. When he died, Dani’s mom kept her. Gave her to me.” His face is relaxed, but the pain of his loss is still in his eyes, and I’ve come to notice that it’s a look that’s always there. Even when he’s laughing, it doesn’t erase the perpetual sadness that he carries with him. It’s a sadness that I carry with me as well. “When I was a kid, my dad took me to the beach once.” Bronn’s brows knit and I hurry to continue my story. “It was cold that morning, early spring, the breeze causing goosebumps to take up permanent residence on my arms. I remember Daddy taking his sweat shirt off and putting it on me. The thing swamped me.” I pause and laugh, remembering how the arms of the hoodie had drug the ground and how daddy had belly laughed at the sight before rolling them up. “Anyway, we searched for shark’s teeth that morning. It was too cold to swim, too cold to play in the sand. But I’d had a fascination with the predators of the sea, a newfound one, and Daddy had been determined that we were going to find a great white’s full jaw, I think.” I’d been staring up at the sky, but I glanced at Bronn to see his face rapt with attention, his expression intense. “We looked and looked until my eyes went cross. But, we didn’t have any luck.” I can’t tear my gaze away from Bronn’s, even though the way he’s studying me is a little unnerving. “We found all kinds of amazing shells, rocks that were smooth from being tumbled by the waves, crab shells that must have been eaten by gulls. But nothing that came from Jaw’s mouth.” I shrug, and smile. Bronn smiles back. His face finally relaxes, but his eyes are still full of emotion. “I remember Daddy was so disappointed. But I wasn’t. I’d spent the morning with my favorite person in the world. I may have been freezing the whole time, my face chapped from with wind and sand whipping in it, my hair a tangled mess that took mama an hour to brush, but it was the best day.” The half-smile that I’d been sporting while lost in the memory fades. “That was my last happy memory with him. He died not long after that.” I swallow hard, determined not to cry. The memory is bittersweet, but it’s still sweet. That’s the thing about memories. The same exact memory can be happy or sad, depending on how you choose to remember it. And I choose to remember the sheer joy I’d felt that day, not the crushing sadness that it was the last time I’d felt that way. I clear the emotion from my throat. “Anyway, I don’t know why I shared that. Just, maybe, to tell you, that I understand holding on to something because it has sentimental value.” I nod at his truck, “Bessie may not be worth any money, but she’s worth her weight in gold if she makes you happy.” My lips quiver as I offer a smile. Bronn may think that we come from different worlds, and maybe we do. Nana would have killed me dead if I had ever come home from a date in a truck like his. But there’s sadness and loss everywhere, no matter how much money you have. And that common thread binds us together, whether Bronn realizes it or not.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“Now, what is a pretty thing like you doing sitting at the bar all by yourself?” My head turns at the sound of the deep voice, my eyes landing on an arrogant smile. I quickly scan the rest of his face. Crystal-blue eyes. Nose that’s just slightly too big for his face. Defined cheekbones. Megawatt smile. Dimpled chin. He looks to be in his early thirties. Not old by any means, but at least seven or eight years older than my twenty-three years. He slides onto the stool to my right. Even though he’s sitting, I still have to tilt my head back to meet his gaze. He signals the bartender and leans into me. “What are you drinking tonight, gorgeous?” I slant my body to the left, trying to widen the gap between us. This guy clearly doesn’t understand the concept of personal space. I glance down at his attire. Suit, tie, perfectly polished shoes. Everything about this guy screams confidence. Gorgeous, well dressed, and if the watch on his wrist is any indication, loaded. Every girl’s fantasy, right? Wrong. I look past him, scanning the crowd for Amanda. Her boyfriend, Justin, tends bar here on weekends. He’s the reason we’re here tonight. He’s also the reason I’m sitting here alone. His break started a few minutes ago, and he and Amanda immediately took off toward the dance floor. Mr. Perfect reaches out and brushes my hair over my shoulder, his fingers lingering on my collarbone. Clearly oblivious to my silence and current search of rescue, he trails his fingers along the side of my neck. I shudder. Mistaking my revulsion for desire, he leans in closer. When I turn to face him, I see his eyes drift shut as he draws near. His mouth forms a small pucker and he stops just inches from my face. I stare at that mouth. Is this guy for real? His eyes flicker open, those baby blues peering up at me through hooded lids. When he sees where my eyes are settled, the corners of his mouth curl up into a wry grin. I pull back just as he tries to close the distance between us. He doesn’t take kindly to my rejection. Darkness fills his eyes and a small frown tugs at the corners of his lips. But he quickly regains his composure, laughing at me softly. “Hard to get, eh? I like that.” He winks, continuing to laugh like we’re both in on some private joke. I look around again. Where in the hell is Amanda? The bartender finally makes his way over to us, giving me a temporary reprieve from the man’s scrutiny. “My usual, Jimmy. And another of whatever this pretty lady is having.” Jimmy nods curtly and turns to prepare the man’s drink order. As he moves, I see a slight roll of his eyes. I’m guessing this isn’t the first time my new friend here has tried to pick someone up in this place. The man interrupts my thoughts. “I’m Bruce. Phillips. Phillips and Lambert Real Estate. You may have seen our signs around town. Best in the biz, if I do say so myself. Buying or selling, we’re in a class by ourselves.” He extends his card to me. I stare at it blankly. That awful slogan is plastered across the top. When I don’t reach to take it, he shrugs and tucks it back inside his jacket pocket. “So, cat got your tongue? Do you have a name, sweetheart?” I decide I’ve had enough of his attempted sweet talk and those heated glances. I turn and place both elbows on the bar, cradling my drink between my fingers. Without meeting his gaze, I take a sip and finally put him out of his misery. “Not interested.” “Well, that sure is an interesting name. Can’t say I’ve heard that one before.” He gives me a sideways grin, his attempts at charm failing miserably on me. I resist the urge to roll my eyes, instead letting out an exasperated sigh. “Look, I get it. I get the cocky attitude and the confident swagger. I’m sure you’ve got women falling down around you. Begging you to take them home, to give them one night they’ll never forget. And so on and so forth,” I say with a dismissive wave of my hand. This time I’m unable to contain my eye roll. I turn on my seat, looking him square in the eye. “I’m sure your next line will be that any girl in this place would kill to be in my position right now. So why don’t you go ahead and save yourself the time and effort and go find one of them? Because this—” I gesture between the two of us “—is not happening.” With that, I turn away from him, placing my elbows back on the bar in front of me. I can see the stunned look on his face out of the corner of my eye. His mouth opens and closes, giving him the appearance of a fish out of water. Hoping he’s taken my not-so-subtle hint, I down the rest of my drink and start to stand. As soon as my feet touch the floor, a rough hand closes around my arm, halting my movement. I stumble back to my seat, staring up at the man. What the fuck does he think he’s doing? He towers over me. He has at least six inches on my five foot nine. The anger I saw in his eyes has returned. Only this time it’s deepened. He looks furious. “Look here, you stupid bitch. I don’t know who you think you are, but nobody talks to me like that,” he growls. His fingers tighten on my arm, nails digging into my skin. I squirm, trying to break free of his hold. It only results in more pressure. I can feel the bruises already starting to form. “Now. You’re going to sit here and enjoy that drink I so generously bought for you. And you’re going to tell me your name and laugh at my jokes. And when I say it’s time, you’re going to leave here with me. You got that?” My sharp words and tough-girl persona disappear in a matter of seconds. I feel the panic rising in my chest, the sweat breaking out along my hairline. I’ve had to deal with unwarranted advances before. But not like this. Usually men just slink off, calling me a bitch and finding someone else to lick their wounds and stroke their ego. But not this man. I’m in over my head here and I know it. My eyes desperately search for Amanda or Justin. Anyone I know who can help me. I come up empty. “P-please. Just let me go.” My voice is barely audible over the loud music booming off the walls of the club. I hate the meager sound of my words. I hate that this bastard has reduced me to this. Helpless—something I haven’t felt in years. A few ugly words and a strong arm and I’m back to where I was. Where I’ve tried so hard to never return again.

TEASER:

“Stop it, Kade. This is not the time for jokes.” In spite of her attempt at looking annoyed, her lips twitch.
“Why not?”
“You’re making me angry.” She grabs the handle but doesn’t open the door. I press my open palm against the door, planting myself before her.
“If making you angry is the only way to make you realize you’re wasting your time with this guy, then it’s worth it.”
“Why do you even care?” Her voice is soft now.
I don’t understand the anger I’m feeling or the fact that I do care.
I don’t understand why I need to protect her while shaking some sense into her.
“I would hate seeing you wasting your time over this loser. I hate knowing that this piece of shit makes you feel bad about yourself.” I grab her chin, forcing her to look at me, fighting the sudden urge to kiss her. “No woman deserves to feel the way you do. I don’t know what his fucking problem is, but Vicky, I do know that you’re hot. I have to restrain myself around you, and it’s not easy.”
“You find me attractive?” she whispers, her eyes wide.
“Yeah. Without a doubt.” I brush my fingertips over her lips, tracing the contours. “You’re weird but sexy as hell. Do you have any idea what you’re doing to me? How much you leave me in want? I don’t think you do.”
